Cost-benefit analysis of reclaiming abandoned gob and slurry: west central illinois

Economic impacts of reclaiming abandoned gob and slurry areas associated with underground coal mining in west-central Illinois are assessed. Using a land value method, monetary benefits of reclaiming the abandoned land range from $340,000 to $430,000/ using a ''''willingness to pay'' (aesthetic) formula, economic benefits of reclamation range from $570,000 to $860,000. Total cost of the reclamation is estimated at $705,000.
