A hearing was conducted on the current widespread shortages of gasoline and diesel fuel. Answers are sought for the reason for the shortages: are companies manipulating the market, is it the fault of the Iranians, or is it because of inadequate refining capacity in the US are some issues addressed. Fifteen witnesses testified including senators from Arkansas, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Oregon, Washington, Louisiana, Idaho, Ohio, and Wyoming, and representatives from Texaco, Shell Oil, Chevron, Exxon, and Amoco, and Deputy Secretary, John F.
