Cu(I)/Cu(II) redox electromotive force measurements in the molten binary system CuCl-CuCl/sub 2/ were carried out by using a chlorine/chloride reference electrode in a temperature range from about 400 to 530/sup 0/C and for several concentrations up to 10 mol % CuCl/sub 2/. The free energy, enthalpy, and entropy change of the reaction CuCl(l) + 1/2Cl/sub 2/(g) = CuCl/sub 2/(l), as well as the unknown thermodynamic properties of molten solute CuCl/sub 2/, have been calculated as a function of temperature.
