Linear polymeric chain perfluorinated bis-sulfonimides have been synthesized. They are stable strong acids with interesting properties as electrolytes. Like sulfonic acids, they are hydronium ion conductors which require the presence of water to obtain significant ionic conductivity. They are therefore not suitable for use as fuel cell electrolytes at temperatures much beyond 100 C.
