The oxotechnetium(V) bis (dithiolate) complexes, (T/sub c/(O)(SXS)/sub 2/)/sup -/, where X = CH/sub 2/CH/sub 2/, CH/sub 2/CH/sub 2/CH/sub 2/, and CH/sub 2/CH(CH/sub 3/), have been synthesized and the crystal structure of the SCH/sub 2/CH/sub 2/S compound was investigated in order to establish the nature of this group of compounds. The compounds were prepared by reducing ammonium pertechnetate in ethanol with sodium borohydride in the presence of the appropriate 1,2- or 1,3-dithiols. All three compounds were precipitated upon the addition of the tetraphenylarsonium ion. The structure of (PH/sub 4/As)(TcO(SCH/sub 2/CH/sub 2/)S) was solved in the space group Pbca, with unit cell dimensions of a = 19.669(3)A, b = 18.745(4)A, C = 15.122(3)A, and Z = 8. Bond angles, bond distances, and an ORTEP drawing for the oxotechnetium.
