Effect of cold work on hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility of Ni/sub 60/Nb/sub 40/ glass

Journal Article · · Mater. Res. Bull.; (United States)

Ni/sub 60/Nb/sub 40/ glass ribbons were cold rolled to a reduction of --25%. As-quenched and cold-rolled ribbons were embrittled by cathodic charging in 1.0N H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/. It was observed that hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility is enhanced on cold-rolling. Kinetics of recovery of ductility was employed to estimate the diffusion coefficient of hydrogen. These investigations indicate an increase in hydrogen diffusivity on deformation.
