Book ·
OSTI ID:6545252

Volume 2 details Pacific Basin markets for western steam coal, with a focus on Japan, the Republic of China, and the Republic of South Korea. It includes quantity, type, and quality specifications, timing of need, committed and uncommitted volumes, technological changes influencing decisions, and share for western US suppliers. The task force drew its information from official reports in each country as well as from informal analyses by banks, trading companies, research institutes, and others. It also synthesized the results of discussions with Pacific Basin industry executives, including the utility, cement, and steel industries, and government agency officials. The task force estimates that US western producers as a whole can realistically expect to supply the Pacific Basin nations with 8.5 to 10.8 million tons of coal in 1985 and with 18.7 to 25.5 million tons in 1990. 3 figures.
