This article examines the potential for tidal power being harnessed in the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia, a brief history of tidal power and the construction and operation of a test site for a straight flow turbine generator at Nova Scotia Power's Annapolis Station at the mouth of the Annapolis River. Test results and wear and damage to the turbine generator are discussed as are the environmental effects of erosion of the shoreline, salt intrusion of agricultural land, impaired drainage and fish mortality.
