Tidal generating plant doubles as test center for low-speed turbine/generator

Journal Article · · Power; (United States)
OSTI ID:6098970
The first tidal powerplant in North America began generating up to 20 MW last year on the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia, Canada. Although its output is relatively small in this hydro-rich country, hope is that the Annapolis tidal generating station will be the forerunner of an extensive power project harnessing the 50-60-ft tides on the Bay of Fundy to generate up to 5000 MW. One of the important functions of the Annapolis station is to serve as a pilot project to evaluate the characteristics of large Stratoflo turbines and their potential for other tidal and low-head-hydro projects.
