Journal Article · · Mater. Performance; (United States)
OSTI ID:6543115
Surface preparation methods for steel are summarized and justification for proper surface preparation prior to coating is presented. Criteria are given to determine the degree of cleaning achieved and various considerations involved in selecting an abrasive cleaning method are discussed. Characteristics of stationary system for centrifugal abrasive cleaning of structural steel are given and installation are illustrated. Application of air and airless blasting methods to ship decks and hulls in dry-dock and elsewhere is discussed. Portable airless blasting machines for ship surface preparation are described and results achieved are evaluated.
