This appendix documents the development of the Task 3 design approaches for the electrical systems for a hydraulically-compensated, hard-rock mined cavern, Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) facility. The design approaches presented herein provided the basis for development of the preliminary plant design presented in Volume 12. The electrical systems described in this appendix include the plant power system, switchyard and electrical motor starting system. The design approaches presented in this appendix are based on the design criteria presented in the Project Design Criteria - CAES, Volume 3. Selection of the preferred approach reflect the Task 3 study results and conform to the greatest extent possible with PEPCo's standard practices.
