We consider the process [ital K][sub [ital L]][r arrow][mu][sup [plus minus]][ital e[minus plus]][nu][bar [nu]] at next to leading order in chiral perturbation theory. This process occurs in the standard model at second order in the weak interaction, and constitutes a potential background in searches for new physics through the modes [ital K][sub [ital L]][r arrow][mu][sup [plus minus]][ital e[minus plus]]. We find that the same cut, [ital M][sub [mu][ital e]][gt]489 MeV, used to remove the sequential decays [ital K][sub [ital l]3][r arrow][pi][sub [ital l]2] pushes the [ital B]([ital K][sub [ital L]][r arrow][mu][sup [plus minus]][ital e[minus plus]][nu][bar [nu]]) to the 10[sup [minus]23] level, effectively removing it as a background.
