Nederlandse Gasunie, Holland, has ordered a Coberra 3045 pipeline compression package for installation later this year to expand the pumping capacity of its Ravenstein natural gas transmission station. The completed installation - including the gas turbine, pipeline compressor, and system controls - will run an estimated 8 million Guilders or, at conversion rate of 2.2 Guilders per U.S. dollar, some $3.6 million. The gas turbine driver, designed around Rolls-Royce's industrial Spey gas generator and new Cooper power turbine, has an ISO base rating of 16,200 hp with a heat rate of 7600 Btu per hp-hr. The new Spey compression package being installed at Ravenstein is expected to see year-round duty as a base load unit to pump that high-calorific export gas. Although 40% more expensive than its Avon counterpart, the Spey should pay for itself within a few years of operation because of its higher design efficiency (33%) and lower fuel consumption.
