Journal Article · · Resources; (United States)

Deforestation in developing countries at an estimated annual rate of 10 to 15 million hectares reduces a commercial product and the major household energy source, causing serious economic and environmental problems. Population, land management, climate, and economics are among the pressures causing deforestation. Accelerated reforestation programs to balance the loss of wood and repair the damage to crop and grazing lands are experimenting rural social forestry, which stresses local participation in tree planting and nurture.
