A process is described for converting feedstock comprising aromatic compounds selected from the group consisting of benzene, monocyclic akyl-substituted benzene of from 7 to 10 carbon atoms and mixtures thereof, alkyl being methyl, ethyl or a combination thereof, to alkylation conversion product comprising aromatic compounds which differs from the feedstock. The aromatic compounds comprise contacting the feedstock and an alkylating agent at conversion conditions sufficient to convert the feedstock to the product with a catalyst composition comprising a crystalline composition prepared by a method for enhancing the catalytic activity of a porous inorganic crystalline composition.
