This patent describes a process for transalkylating a feedstock comprising aromatic hydrocarbons including monocyclic alkyl-substituted benzene of from 7 to 10 carbon atoms and mixtures thereof. Alkyl being methyl, ethyl or a combination thereof, comprises contacting the feedstock at transalkylation conditions with a catalyst composition comprising an active form of a crystalline layered silicate having the X-ray diffraction pattern of the specification and a composition as synthesized on an anhydrous basis in terms of moles of oxides per mole of silica.
