Cis influence of ligands in (tetraphenylporphyrinato)manganese(III)

(Tetraphenylporphyrinato)manganese(III) complexes with axial ligands, (X)MnTPP, containing Br/sup -/ and SCN/sup -/ ions as axial ligands (X) have been synthesized, isolated, and purified. Their electronic absorption spectra and the kinetics of their solvoprotolytic dissociation /(X)MnTPP + 4H/sub Solv//sup +/ ..-->.. (H/sub 4/TPP)/sup 2 +/ + (MnX)/sub Solv//sup 2 +// in proton-donor solvents (HAc-H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/) under polythermal conditions have been studied. On the basis of an analysis of the rate constants of dissociation and the activation parameters of the dissociation reaction, as well as the literature data, it has been demonstrated that there are static and kinetic cis effects of the coordinated ..pi..-acid ligands CH/sub 3/COO/sup -/, HSO/sub 4//sup -/, Cl/sup -/, Br/sup -/, and SCN/sup -/ in the complexes (X)MnTPP.
