Integrated two stage liquefaction process

Conference · · Coal Technol. (Houston); (United States)
OSTI ID:6504137
The Integrated Two Stage Liquefaction (ITSL) process after 15 months of operation at the PDU scale is described. The objective of this effort was to develop a process that converts coal to distillates at low hydrogen consumption by separation of the coal dissolution and hydroconversion reactions. The ITSL process combines Short Contact Time (SCT) coal hydroliquefaction and LC-Firing (SM) hydroconversion of the coal extract after deashing by the C-E Lummus Antisolvent Deashing process. The pilot plant results attained so far are discussed. The recent pilot plant runs have demonstrated the viability of the integrated two stage concept.
