The Board`s mandate includes providing expert technical advice to the Canada-Newfoundland and the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Boards, Natural Resources Canada and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada. It is responsible for conducting environmental assessments of the planning, construction, operation, maintenance and abandonment of energy projects within its jurisdiction, as well as for ensuring the safe operations of the pipelines under its jurisdiction.
