Conductance and ion association in dimethylsulfite

The electrolytic conductances of LiClO/sub 4/, LiAsF/sub 6/, NaClO/sub 4/ and the n-butylammonium salts Bu/sub 4/NCl, Bu/sub 4/NClO/sub 4/, and Bu/sub 4/NBPh/sub 4/ (tetraphenylborate) have been determined in dimethylsulfite at 25/sup 0/C. Ion association constants calculated from these data are interpreted in terms of solvent-separated ion pairs (for LiClO/sub 4/, LiAsF/sub 6/, and NaClO/sub 4/), and contact ion pairs (for the n-butyl-ammonium salts). Comparisons are made for analogous electrolytes in acetone, and in which all salts form contact ion pairs.
