Protonic conduction in acceptor-doped KTaO/sub 3/ crystals

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6488160
Crystals of KTaO/sub 3/ doped with Cu/sup 2 +/, Fe/sup 3 +/ or Ni/sup 3 +/ can be charged with H/sup +/ by heating in water vapor. Such crystals then become protonic conductors with an activation energy for proton hopping of approx.1 eV. The isotope effect is studied by replacing H/sup +/ by D/sup +/. 10 refs., 5 figs.
