North America's energy future

Conference · · Proc., Annu. Conv. - Gas Process. Assoc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6486575
The paper emphasizes the imperative need to develop North America's massive, but undeveloped, oil, gas, tar sand, and oil shale potentials. It is shown that during the next decade, given the right investments in oil and gas exploration, development, production and transportation, Canada could become more than self-sufficient in petroleum hydrocarbons and help provide a security of supply for all of North America. The new price incentives in the United States will also encourage the development of the vast potentials of Alaska, tertiary recovery and oil shale development and thereby decrease U.S. dependence on imported crude oil.
