Pacific Gas and Electric Company has signed a $1.6 million engineering and program management contract with Mechanical Technology Inc. to help convert one of PG and E's gas turbine compressor stations at Gerber, California into a cogeneraation plant for the simultaneous production of mechanical and electrical power. The station is powered by a single Cooper-Bessemer RT125 Coberra set, NEMA rated at 12,500 hp for continuous duty operation. The steam turbine cogeneration installation will recover 5300 hp from the gas turbine exhaust to generate 4000 kW for PG and E's electric utility grid.
