The densified-refuse derived fuel (d-RDF) plant in Laval, France processes 20,000 t/year of municipal solid waste and produces 7,400 t of a storable, pelletized fuel of approximately 6,500 Btu/lb energy content. The pellets are delivered seasonally to the boiler facility to match the heat load demand for district heating. The yearly energy savings is equivalent to 543,000 gal of fuel oil or 27 gal of oil per ton of refuse.
