High-pressure power laser utilizing 3p--3s transitions in Ne I generating radiation of wavelengths 703 and 725 nm

Journal Article · · Sov. J. Quant. Electron. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
Lasing was observed for the first time as a result of the 3p(1/2)/sub 1/--3s(3/2)/sup 0//sub 2/ and 3p(1/2)/sub 1/--3s(3/2)/sup 0//sub 1/ transitions in the Ne atom generating light of wavelengths 703 and 725 nm. A working mixture of the He--Ne--Ar--Kr composition at pressures up to 3.5 atm was pumped by a fast-electron beam. The output energy reached 0.25 J when the volume of the active medium was 10 liters and the laser efficiency was approx.0.1%.
