Lagoven S.A., with Fluor Corp. as the prime contractor, is installing at its Amuay refinery, a 52,000 bbl/day Flexicoker, a 74,300 bbl/day Flexicracker, a 14,500 bbl/day alkylation unit, and a 7500 bbl/day butane isomerization unit, which will enable the refinery, during a typical run of 450,000 bbl/day of crude, to accept 200,000 bbl/day of heavy and extra heavy crude, up from the current 98,000 bbl/day, and increase gasoline production from 67,000 bbl/day to 130,000 bbl/day. The charge for the Flexicoker will contain 708 ppm vanadium and 163 ppm nickel, and the output of approx. 100 tons/day of coke will contain approx. 7% by wt of vanadium. Maraven S.A. is installing a 100,000 bbl/day train, with facilities for atmospheric distillation, high-vacuum distillation, deasphalting, hydrotreatment (for metals removal), hydrocracking, and partial oxidation, at its 330,000 bbl/day Cardon refinery for conversion of Tiajuana Pesado crude with 2.66% by wt sulfur into diesel and other products.
