Structure and activity of supported metal catalysts--9. Preparation, dispersion, and activity of palladium-silver on silica catalysts

Journal Article · · J. Catal.; (United States)
Of various techniques tested for the preparation of homogeneous palladium/silver alloys supported on silica, best results were obtained by depositing 4% alloy on prefired silica, calcining at 800/sup 0/C, and reducing at 450/sup 0/C, or by reducing the metal compounds impregnated on the support in the liquid phase with hydrazine, followed by heat treating in nitrogen at 750/sup 0/C. The catalysts were evaluated by X-ray determinations of alloy dispersion, electron microscopy, carbon monoxide adsorption, and activity tests for ethylene hydrogenation.
