Several aspects of the SN 1987A that are of special interest are examined. These include the evolution of the presupernova star, its early-stage composition and core structure, and the reason for its blue color; the iron core mass of SN 1987A, the explosion mechanism, and certain aspects of the neutrino burst; and the detailed isotopic composition of the ejecta; the light curve and the requirement for mixing; and the expected continued evolution of the supernova. Particular attention is given to the optical pulsations (at 1968.629 Hz) from SN 1987A and to the possible mechanism for the formation of this pulsar. 74 refs.
