Various papers on high-power laser diodes and applications are presented. The subjects discussed include: two-dimensional laser array technology comparison: stack-and-rack vs. monolithic; high-power semiconductor-laser amplifiers; incoherent GaAlAs/GaAs semiconductor laser array; high-power quasi-CW and CW laser diode bar arrays; designs for high power, single mode operation in broad stripe semiconductor lasers; high-power edge- and surface-emitting AlGaAs semiconductor lasers; high-power laser diodes for the NASA direct detection laser transceiver experiment; and high-power diode laser research at Mitusbishi Electric. Also addressed are: InGaAsP/InP high-power single-element diode lasers; laser-assisted processing of GaAs-AlGaAs optoelectronic devices; monolithic two-dimensional surface-emitting arrays of GaAs/AlGaAs lasers; AlGaAs surface-emitting distributed feedback laser; improved performance buried heterostructure window lasers; progress in single quantum well structures for high-power laser device applications.
