Global energy futures and the carbon dioxide problem

Journal Article · · Boston Coll. Environ. Aff. Law Rev.; (United States)

A discussion is presented of the potential risks involved in moderate increases in the burning of fossil fuels over the coming decades. The continuing rise in atmospheric CO/sub 2/ concentrations poses long-term risks to the global climate and to the biological systems that depend on the climate. Three recommendations for dealing with the CO/sub 2/ problem include: (1) assign a high priority to incorporating the CO/sub 2/ issue to US energy policy planning; (2) increase reliance on energy conservation and renewable sources of energy; and (3) undertake new and expanded cooperative international efforts to address CO/sub 2/ issues.
