Studies in the use of ionizing radiation as stimuli: Progress report for the period February 1, 1964-May 31, 1965

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6468000
This document describes studies of ionizing radiations as motivating stimuli. The author demonstrated that aversion to saccharin was dependent on total dose, independent of dose rate, and independent of saccharin concentration. The length of the post-exposure period is critical to conditioning aversion and whole body exposure produces better yields than partial body exposure. A graduate student demonstrated that saccharin aversion was diminished significantly in rats if the olfactory bulbs were surgically removed. Studies designed to determine the ability of pigeons to detect x-rays produced inconclusive results. Research on the radiation perception of insects focused on various aspects of eye physiology. 12 refs. (TEM)
