The magnetic form factor of /sup 3/He and /sup 3/H is calculated for momentum transfer Q/sup 2/ < 30 fm/sup -2/. Calculations use a wavefunction obtained from the solution of the Faddeev equation with the Reid soft-core potential. The effects of both single-particle current (impulse approximation) and exchange currents (two-particle current) for both ..pi..-meson and rho-meson exchange are considered. Currents satisfy the continuity equation. Calculations are performed in the case of a point nucleon at the nucleon-meson vertex. Also the effect of the nucleon size at the nucleon-meson vertex is considered by introducing a strong interaction form factor which decreases the effect of the exchange currents. The effect of the neutron charge form factor on the calculations is also studied since it is not known very accurately except near Q = 0. By comparing results with the most recent experimental data it can be seen that meson exchange currents improve the agreement between theoretical prediction and experimental results. Still, exchange currents are not enough to account for all the discrepancies. Introduction of the theory of quark bags (clusters) will account for this difference.
