Detection of HC/sup 18/O/sup +/ in Sagittarius B2

Line emission at 85.1 GHz attributed to the J=1..-->..O rotational transition of the formyl ion HC/sup 18/O/sup +/ has been detected in Sgr B2 (OH). The double isotopic ratio (/sup 16/O//sup 18/O)/(/sup 12/C//sup 13/C) in the formyl ion in Sgr B2 is estimated to be in the range 5--10, hence within a factor 2 of the terrestrial value 5.5. This determination implies that the /sup 13/C//sup 12/C ratio near the galactic center does not differ greatly from that in local molecular clouds.
