Angular correlation functions have been measured for the ..gamma.. rays emitted by the final nucleus and for the emitted ..cap alpha.. particles in the reaction /sup 12/C(..cap alpha.., ..cap alpha..'..gamma../sub 4.43/)/sup 12/C. Measurements were made in the reaction plane at five values of incident ..cap alpha..-particle energy E/sub b/ in the range 14--19 MeV and an energy 25.3 MeV in the region of emission of scattered ..cap alpha.. particles theta/sub b/ from 17 to 83/sup 0/. The angular distribution of ..cap alpha.. partticles inelastically scattered by the /sup 12/C nucleus was also measured for E/sub b/=25.3 MeV in the region of angles 17--64/sup 0/. It is shown that taking into account a delay in interaction of the ..cap alpha.. particles with the nucleus permits correct description both of the rapidly rising behavior of the symmetry angle of the angular distribution function as a function of theta/sub b/ and of the angular distribution of scattered ..cap alpha.. particles. The possible deviation of the shape of the angular correlation function from the sinusoidal form usually used is discussed.
