Observation of a localized 5f photoemission satellite in narrow-band uranium compounds

We show by means of systematic photoemission measurements on several sets of uranium-based ternary alloys that the ''two-peaked'' f-electron spectrum found in Ce-compounds is also found in uranium heavy fermions, as well as all narrow band 5f materials. The 5f spectra consist of a superposition of features entirely consistent with those expected from band structure calculations, plus a broad peak identified as a poorly screened 5f satellite not derived from the ground state. 20 refs., 2 figs.
