Phase transition in SU(5) lattice gauge theory

Monte Carlo evidence is presented for a first-order phase transition in pure SU(5) lattice gauge theory with Wilson's action in four space-time dimensions. Although less clear, a similar transition is strongly suggested already with SU(4).
