Nuclear moments of radioactive nuclei. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6446161
An unsuccessful attempt was made to study nuclear moments of radioactive nuclear using laser spectroscopy. Although preliminary tests had indicated a sensitivity sufficient to observe signals of fluxes less than one atom/s no resonance fluorescence was detected. Activity measurements showed several hundred nuclei per second were in the beam; therefore it was postulated that, due to the the reactivity of the /sup 126/Ba and sodium used, contaminants were the probable source of negative results. 3 refs., 2 figs.
