Erwin nuclear fuels services. Hearing before the Subcommittee on Energy Conservation and Power of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, House of Representatives, Ninety-Ninth Congress, Second Session, September 18, 1986
Members of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of the nuclear industry trade unions testified at a hearing on the occupational hazards at the Erwin, Tennessee Nuclear Fuel Services plant where workers have suffered chronic exposure to and contamination from toxic materials. Workers objected to the response of the NRC, while the company held that related information is proprietary. The hearing was held in an attempt to continue operation at the plant, but in a manner that would protect the safety of workers and the environment. Witnesses described problems with personnel monitoring, company discipline and employee dissatisfaction over the low priority given to health hazards. Additional material submitted for the record follows the testimony of the 11 witnesses.
