The method of ..delta..E and E semiconductor detectors has been used to study experimentally the cross sections for production of the neutron-rich isotopes /sup 6,8/He and /sup 7,8,9,11/Li in interaction of 6.7-GeV protons and 3.1-GeV deuterons with the nuclei /sup 12/C, /sup 13/C, /sup 27/Al, /sup 112/Sn, /sup 124/Sn, and /sup 238/U. The ratios sigma(A/sub f/+2)/sigma(A/sub f/) are given for the fragmentation product as a function of the neutron-excess parameter of the target nuclei (N/sub t/-Z/sub t/)/A/sub t/ and of the fragments (N/sub f/-Z/sub f/)/A/sub f/. The data obtained indicate a slowing down in the falloff of the function sigma(A/sub f/+2)/sigma(A/sub f/) with increase of the neutron excess of the fragments. An estimate is made of the cross sections for formation of hypothetical neutron nuclei (polyneutron systems) in the fragmentation process. The experimental situation in the region of the hypothetical isotopes /sup 10/He and /sup 13/Li is analyzed.
