Contract No. EF-77-C-01-2542 between Conoco Inc. and the United States Department of Energy (DOE) provides for the design, construction, and operation of a Demonstration Plant capable of converting high sulfur, bituminous caking coal to clean pipeline quality gas. One of the assignments under the contract is to find potential suppliers of coal and coke feedstocks for operation of the plant during Phase III of the project. Competitive supplies of Pittsburgh No. 8 coal, Ohio No. 9 coal, petroleum coke and anthracite coal can be obtained for the Demonstration Plant. Requests for Proposals to supply the materials will be issued to identified suppliers during construction of the plant. Specifications for the materials have been set by the design of the Demonstration Plant and pilot plant experience.
