A sampling and analytical method is described for the determination of airborne exposures of individuals to the carcinogen, 4,4'-methylenebis(2-chloroaniline), known as MOCA. The personal sampler employs a filter to collect particulate MOCA followed by a bed of silica gel to remove the vapors. MOCA is extracted from the sampler stages with methanol and a 10-..mu..L aliquot is injected into an HPLC operating with a reverse-phase system. The UV detector (254 nm) allows quantitation of 3 ng of MOCA corresponding to 0.15 ..mu..g/sample. Precision levels were determined to be 9.2% at 1.5 ..mu..g/sample and 14% at 0.15 ..mu..g/sample. 7 figures, 3 tables..
