Corrosion evaluation of alloys for nuclear waste processing

Journal Article · · Mater. Performance; (United States)
OSTI ID:6434519
Corrosion scouting tests were performed on stainless steel and nickel-based alloys in simulated process solutions to be used in a facility to immobilize high-level, radioactive waste by incorporating it into borosilicate glass. Alloys with combined chromium plus molybdenum contents greater than 30% were the most resistant to general and local attack. Alloy C-276 was selected as the reference process equipment material, with Alloy 690 and ALLCORR selected for specific applications.
