16th Annual Top 100 Electric Utilities report: major electric power companies saw financial strength slip again in 1980

Journal Article · · Electr. Light Power; (United States)
OSTI ID:6432578
A breakdown of electric utility financial data for 1980 ranks the top 100 utilities by earnings growth, sales, financial statistics, and company performance. A declining trend in financial stability continues, but revenue and net income gains tend to mask the financial erosion from inflation, a drop in industrial loads, high interest rates, delayed construction, and unrealistic rates. A summary of the statistics shows a revenue increase of 15.9% to $93.6 billion, net income increase of 12.5% to $8.35 billion, and a flat kWh sales record. The summary explores the reasons for the economic erosion and qualifies some of the reported statistics. 6 tables. (DCK)
