Investor-owned electric utilities 100: Top 100 1994 financial performances

Journal Article · · Electric Light and Power
OSTI ID:98829
The threat of deregulation and competition is forcing investor-owned utilities to cut costs and become more profitable. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the financial performance of major investor-owned utilities (IOUs) in 1994, as evidenced by the fact that net income rose by 16.27 percent while revenue increased by only 2.26 percent and kWhr sales were up 3 percent. Of the major IOUs reporting data, net income totaled a whopping $18.5 billion, up from $15.9 billion in 1993. Revenue went from $180 billion in 1993 to $184 billion in 1994 while kWhr sales totaled 2.38 trillion in 1994, up 2.73 percent from 2.31 trillion in 1993.
