Central control system optimizes compressor driver fuel use and engine efficiency
Six thousands miles 34-38 in. dia. pipeline (including loop line) comprise TransCanada Pipelines' 2000-mile natural gas transmission system from Alberta to Montreal. Located at regular intervals along the pipeline, 49 compressor stations with compression facilities totaling over 1,224,000 installed hp keep the gas moving to the major markets in the east. TransCanada's own minicomputer-based control system effectively regulates each compressor station dispatch center. The system is based on a standardized hardware and software design that adapts easily to each compressor station and offers the flexibility to enable future enhancements in fuel conservation, engine performance analysis, and telemetry communication performance.
