A dense phase pneumatic conveying principle is utilized with specially designed equipment in the Dense-A-Matic coal handling system. Dense-A-Matic, marketed by the Detroit Stoker Co., has no moving parts in operation while coal is being transferred. High pressure air supplies coal to any number of reception points. The coal is moved at a low velocity without clogging. Coal can be fed to the system from a subterranean receiving hopper or from a storage silo. The Denseveyor coal receiver is the heart of the system. The pressure vessel transfers coal to overhead bunkers or directly to stoker hoppers. It operates on an automatic cycle. Compressed air functions as the conveying medium for this type of low velocity transfer. The advantages are discussed.
