ROVs find multiple deepwater applications

The use of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) in the erection of Shell Oil's Cognac platform off the mouth of the Mississippi River in 1977 is discussed. The primary objective of the ROVs in the operation was to observe and back-up the divers. The ROVs were used in clump weight installation, pipeline pulling, and charge placement. Each of these operations is discussed.
