Measurement and analysis of isotope shifts in sup 151,153 Eu sup + from hyperfine spectra

Isotope shifts in {sup 151,153}Eu{sup +} have been measured for four optical transitions between the metastable levels 4{ital f}{sup 7}({sup 8}{ital S}{sup 0})5{ital d}{sup 9}{ital D}{sup 0}{sub {ital J}} and the excited levels 4{ital f}{sup 7}({sup 8}{ital S}{sup 0}{sub 7/2})6{ital p}{sub 3/2};{ital J}{prime} in a collinear laser and slow-ion-beam apparatus. A phenomenological interpretation and an {ital ab} {ital initio} calculation have been made and compared with experiment.
