Method and apparatus for controlling air-fuel ratio in internal combustion engine

A method is described for controlling the air-fuel ratio in an internal combustion engine comprising the steps of: calculating a base fuel amount in accordance with predetermined engine operating parameters; determining whether or not the engine is in an acceleration state; calculating an air-fuel ratio deviation from the optimum air-fuel ratio when the engine is in an acceleration state; and calculating a synchronous fuel amount in accordance with the base fuel amount. An apparatus is described for controlling the air-fuel ratio in an internal combustion engine comprising: means for calculating a base fuel amount in accordance with predetermined engine operating parameters; means for determining whether or not the engine is in an acceleration state; means for calculating an air-fuel ratio deviation from the optimum air-fuel ratio when the engine is in an accelration state; and means for calculating a synchronous fuel amount in accordance with the base fuel amount.
