Theory of nonstationary kinetic ionization, recombination and population of excited states

Journal Article · · High Temp. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6421947
A modified diffusion approximation has been used to investigate the relaxation times of excited populations toward their quasistationary values in a plasma with constant parameters. The time-dependent relaxation has been found as a function of typical ionization rates. The characteristic features of the relaxation processes have been assessed for nonequilibrium energy level distributions. The propagation of the electron cascade has been investigated in a cold gas, taking into account direct and stepwise ionization.
